Dave Ellis is a professional double bassist with nearly 50 years experience in the music business in Perth and Sydney, and an experienced double bass repairer (formerly with the Bass Shop in Sydney) specialising in repair and restoration of vintage basses and supply and set up of new instruments.

Dave’s vast experience as a bassist covers the genres of jazz, folk and country music, classical, rock and roll and flamenco. Dave brings this knowledge and experience to his work to inform his concepts for the set up of and adjustments to double basses in a widely varying range of double bass players’ needs and requirements.

Dave’s interest in double bass maintenance and repair dates back to 1970/71 when, after relocating to Sydney, he met the great violin maker, Harry Vatiliotis, under whose tutelage, guidance and encouragement, began repairing and setting up double basses. At the end of 2004, after the death of old friend, Alan Riley of the Bass Shop, Dave joined the shop as the repairer and restorer. He left to start his own business “homebass” in mid 2009.
